Resistance, in my experience, has often times disguised itself as comfort. As I age, I’m less concerned about fumbling. I’ve fucied up enough to know I can recover. But the fuzzy area between comfort and lethargy? That is the place where I most likely experience the fumble.
I fumbled yesterday … and given this post, I just decided to run the ball for the extra yard.

Yep. It’s like “R” has finally been put to rest and then suddenly it senses how close you are to pay dirt. Awakening and attempting to stop you again with its last breath. Yet, if you got this far, beginning at the 1 yard line 98 yards back, I find myself pretty damn determined and battle hardened. Even if we have to improvise to cross that damn goal line!
Like so many creative ventures, the path is unique, but teaches us how to finish.

Being a writer of song lyrics, the challenge of learning additional skills like Melody and arrangement is now presenting a new kind of Resistance. The technology of recording has been rearing its head for a while, and shows a different kind of Resistance. Yesterday I acquired a book about Springsteen’s difficulty in bringing his third album into being: TONIGHT IN JUNGLELAND.. The multiple aspects of Resistance that face a talented performer and writer of his own material. The label he was signed to, their challenge to him to write a song that would be radio material, or the label would drop him, just as he was progressing as a performer. I knew the MUSIC BIZ was a hurdle, but, yeah, they have to make money..have mercy!!! I’m coming off the Flu ( yes I had a flu shot last fall, this seemed to be the N3 variety trying to break down my Resistance. ), I made it through 2 chapters..Resistance coming from the people who are supposed to be cheering you on. This book is showing me what a baby I am. Trudge on..
I’m in a similar boat, tho my resistance is probably going to last – ie resisting google drive, or google as much as possible.
We’re all babies apparently, our sub-conscious mind runs the show 95% of the time – those early years from in utero to 8 or so yo, that’s when we feel so much without any understanding of it or who was responsible. most likely not us, innocent us, just beginning to take in experiences and there are millions.
so much can happen in those years, that forms the way we perceive, respond, react, repeat ad infinitum. i’m just learning about this now at 80 yo, because some things have come to my attention and they are definitely not where i want to go. receiving therapy right now to put these repetitive habits back where they belong, in long term memory with the door closed. Apparently TRTP has been used for trauma and all of us have trauma. I’m not here to advertise it, just saying. Still got to do the work of moving forward, however, to feel safe is what I’m doing the therapy for.
And I want to keep reading Steve’s comments because I’m an artist and he’s helping me, along with all of those who also comment. Big thanks to all, so much experience and insight.

I could stroll across the goal line if it wasn’t for the Defenders (resistance) bending my knees backwards and attempting to rip the ball from my grasp. Maybe golf or pickleball would be kinder and less fraught with actual combat. Nah…
I’m in the same place and not only Resistance but all the bastard cousins that are part of the resistance family….anxiety, fear, doubt… …5 years of prep and creating content for a web site and now down to the final steps in developing the web site…..Ugh…Irrational fesr is a bitch.

I’m not on the 99, but I’m past the 50. Got about 16 more yards of writing, then we get into the business and marketing side of things.
The last time I commented here, I was ready to give up on putting my book out in the world on my own terms. I held my breath for days and then remembered to breathe. It took almost everything I had to make that last step but I’m so happy to say my little book is out in the world now. Thank you Steve and everyone here for helping me get over the finish line!
