A Kindle and Nook Un-Contest
Two weeks from today, The Profession goes on sale. We were thinking about having a contest with prizes to celebrate, but we decided that was much too complicated. So instead we’re giving away stuff without a contest.
The two grand prizes—attorneys, take note: they’re not really “prizes”—are a Nook (WiFi) and a Kindle (WiFi), both to be loaded with the Random House Pressfield library: The Profession, Gates of Fire, Tides of War, Last of the Amazons, The Virtues of War, The Afghan Campaign and Killing Rommel.
Then we’ll throw in six signed first editions of The Profession to a lucky half dozen plucked from those who don’t get the Kindle or Nook. This is all as a thank you to everyone who has pre-ordered or simply stuck with the blog throughout the buildup to publication—and to every friend who has blogged or tweeted or Facebooked or just told their brother-in-law about this new book.
Enter your name and contact information before midnight this Friday, EST. We’ll keep this simple. I’ll assemble a list of the names, blindfold myself and pick eight at random, then announce the winners next Wednesday on the blog. I’ll contact the winners for their mailing addresses. The Kindle and Nook winners will get their e-readers by mail and their book downloads by e-mail (the Nook winner will get an eBook gift certificate from Barnes & Noble).
I’ll send the signed first editions myself. I’d give more but I’m the one who has to pack them and schlep them to the post office, so half a dozen will have to be enough. Any more would become Resistance.
Buy The Profession!
What a great opportunity… just finished Killing Rommel and looking forward to The Profession.
Thanks for the un-contest!
Hey Mr. Pressfield,
You need to get down here to Ft. Campbell KY and visit a bunch of Screaming Eagles who think the world of you. In Afghanistan Your books were passed amongst my squad and helped tremendously with moral and to instill and even greater fighting spirit in all of us.
You have spent enough time with the Leather Necks. Come give the grunts a try lol
Soldier In Afghanistan
I have been collecting Screaming Eagles military antiques for years…nice to finally meet one. 🙂
You have all been so generous already — but I can’t pass up the opportunity. I’m tossing my name in the helmet. Thanks yet again!
Very cool. Looking forward to a great book! Thanks for the un contest.
Hi Steven .. great idea and wonderful array of prizes .. so in advance congratulations who wins this fantastic set and the goodies to read them on.
Appreciate the opportunity .. cheers Hilary
Thank you! Can’t wait to read it!!
What a great thing to do. I love your writing and am grateful for this chance to participate here. Thanks for all you do.
What perfect timing for The Profession. I read “Gates of Fire” while researching a novel I wrote (not yet published) about two brothers, one a SEAL and the other a private military contractor working for CIA. “Gates” is required reading in those communities, and I’m sure this next book will resonate too. Keep it up! “Do the Work” arrived at a perfect time for me as I press ahead with a sequel. Thanks.
Amazing give-aways.
Too stinking cool. I keep putting off buying an e-reader hoping to win one some day. 🙂
I’ve been hoping to get an ereader for a long time. Thanks for giving us a chance!
Steven,
Thanks for your great insight. The contest is awesome and I like the idea of the “un-contest.” Seriously, your material has severely challenged my thinking. Thank you!
Wow. So glad I get your posts in my inbox. LOL Please count me in!
I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Which is actually making it difficult to type!
You’re an easy person to support, Steven. You’re one of the most giving writers I’ve ever seen. Can not wait for The Profession. Blessings!
I love un-contests! 🙂 Your blog is wonderful, so helpful…
Best Wishes for a successful launch for “The Profession” !!!………..S/F…….sr
I am a huge fan! And appreciate all that you do, especially your Writing Wednesdays! Count me in.
Thanks 4 the opportunity to access an ereader
wow, thank you! that’s very generous! i can’t wait to read the profession.
This is an awesome un-contest! An e-reader with books to boot. SWEET!
I like the idea of giving stuff away, especially ever since I read Seth Godin’s Linchpin. This was my first exposure to the idea of a “gift economy”. I like the idea of wealth, true wealth, being a measure of what you can give away, not what you can hoard. I recently came to accept such altruism recently, when my laptop was stolen from my hands as I wrote on the patio of my local Starbucks. I couldn’t afford another computer, but I had a friend who evidently had several laptops to spare. He hooked me up with a new laptop that was nicer than my stolen one. It was hard to accept the gift at first. I felt like a welfare case. But eventually I took it. Now I use it everyday, and I’m always seeking to give back to other people, even if I don’t have the financial resources to be as generous as I’d like.
Generous! Thank you!
Resistance got me. I read your blog and put my name in the hat. Now, back to work!
thank you for this opportunity. Looking forward to the book and maybe the win! Enjoy your day.
What a lovely thing to do – an uncontest with unprizes.
Perfect ! A giveaway my Soldier husband and I could both enjoy ! Thanks so much !
Hoping to win! Thanks for the opportunity.
What wonderful book choices and awesome prizes to win!
This is a great un-contest with Father’s Day just around the corner and all <3 Thank you for this!
Perfect, I have been dreaming of sitting poolside reading some good books.
Amazing! Thanks for the chance at these great ‘prizes’ that are not prizes!
I’m in Roger’s mindset too! I keep putting off buying or putting it on my “wish list” of things…. sigh! Hope I win…. 🙂
thanks for the opportunity to win!
Thanks for the opportunity!

I love contests, so I love uncontests, too. My fingers are crossed.

Thanks for sharing!

Stephen:
Thanks for the new book can’t wait.
Thanks for this great opportunity. If I win, I can loan all my hard copies o your books to friends now…
Mememememememe!
Pick ME!
Awesome! You’re an inspiring guy, Steven. Thanks for this. 🙂
Terrific, for me the value is in your back catalogue. I dropped Gates of Fire in the bath the other night 🙁 it was well worn. Can’t imagine the Nook drying out nicely on the radiator 😉
I have listened to “Do the Work” every morning since I got the book about a month ago.
Between DtW and “War of Art” Stephen Pressfield has finally accomplished what no one else on earth could do… making me into a real adult!
Thank you so much for everything your writing contributes to my life and work on a daily basis. And that’s whether I win the freebies or not!
I would love to have one of these, I read so much that we’re running out of space to keep books! Great giveaway, thanks for doing it.
Un-sign me for this un-contest!
I am a struggling artist who is reduced to borrowing my friends Kindle, but she doesn’t appreciate the books I download. Would love to be able to re-read the important books………i.e. The Professsion.
Thanks for making this so simple! and Happy un-birthday to you.
Thanks! Pick me pick me : )
Thanks for your generosity, Steven. It is boundless!
Love the concept of the un-contest. I’m new to your work, blog and website, but have Do the Work on my bedside table and A.B.S.O.L.U.T.E.L.Y L.O.V.I.N.G. it. Thanks Steven.
Pressfield, you SOB. I’m trying to get some WORK done!
How can I overcome the resistance when the sonofabitch who taught me is sending me f%#$@ng emails.
I was in the middle of unsubscribing from all my time wasting email updates. I was blocking my mother’s address. I was sending out notices of my untimely demise to unsuspecting assholes. And what do I find but an email from the Master of Motivation, the Duke of Destiny, the Baghavad Badass of Git’a Done.
I pre-ordered The Profession two months ago. I’ve read all your other stuff…twice. I’m out there every day slaying the dragon and dragging it home.
And now you hound me with an irresistible offer. You evil SOB. Sign me up…but you owe me that Nook you bastard.
With loving regard…
I have read all of your books (except the first) at least once and am a big fan. As much as I would appreciate a loaded E-book reader, I think I would prefer an autographed first edition of The Profession should I be so lucky.
Regards, Ron Heller – OKC
Great contest…would love to get all your books in one place. Saves on the room required to pack for a deployment.
An “uncontest”- what fun!
Happy un-contest, Steven! What a terrific prize!
Hi everyone,
A couple of months back through a series of fortunate events, I was able to read an advanced copy of The Profession; in my not so humble opinion it’s right up there with Gates. I’ve never served in the military, but I was NYPD for 20 years and Mr. Pressfield captures the dark humor of men and women who live in harm’s way like no one else. Enjoy!
I would love to win your un-contest. I have read “War of Art” and am now reading “Do the Work”.
Love both books
What an awesome give-away! Please add me to the hat!
Hi Steven,
It looks like a party here to me! 🙂
Congratulations to your well written path to “The Profession”!
Bonnie
Even if I don’t “win”, I’ll be ordering a copy for our public library. But, I hope I “win”! Congratulations on the new book!
This would make my day/week/month/year! Love this site.<3
Gotta love an uncontest! lol
I would love to read The Profession! I think this is a great way to celebrate the release of your book!
Hope to win as I have really wanted either a Nook or a Kindle. I am now following you on twitter and tweeted the un-contest. Here is the link:

Thanks for the chance to win!
To win a Nook or a book, would make my day/week/month/year. I love this site. Thanks for a chance.
Always up for a contest and I love to read!
Thank you for holding this “un-contest”.
Ahh. I just saw this and it’s already midnight out here so I un-blew the contest, but hey, a chance to say thanx for all your usefulness.
Thank you again (ahead of time for another good read) and for this opportunity to win or not win my first kindle. Congrats Steve!
Pick me! Pick me! lol. Just kidding. Thank you for doing this, and I can’t wait to read this new book because it seems a bit different from your other ones. Please let me know if you do any book signings in Seattle, I would love to get a signing and talk to you, I think you have one of the most interesting brains of any writer around. You are the Norman Rockwell of ancient Greece. (If Norman carried a battle ax along with a paintbrush.) Take care- Kristin 🙂
Very cool!
Great going, Steve. I love your books and look forward to this one.
Mr. Pressfield,
Thanks for the opportunity here with the “un-contest”. I read Gates of Fire while in the Marine Corps, and I really feel captured the esprit de corps of the warrior way of life. Amazing story telling. I’m looking forward to The Profession! Thank you for your work!
R/s
thanks!
Thank you very much for giving the fantastic idea so we will find it useful now.
