Notes from the Inner War

My girlfriend Diana and I were shooting a video for the “Warrior Archetype” series when we came upon this charming country cottage.
It reminded me of a place I once lived in, at a critical juncture in my long struggle to learn how to write.
We decided on the spur of the moment to shoot a video for “Writing Wednesdays” using this cottage as a backdrop.

As I listened to this for the second time, I thought about another Stephen I’ve enjoyed over the years. Stephen Covey writes somewhere in 7 Habits of Highly Effective People that, “Private Victories always precede public victories.”
When we talk about developing character, I think of it as 1000s upon 1000s of promises we kept to ourselves. The most important muscle to exercise is our promise-making muscle.

Brian, I think the most important muscle we can develop is our heart.
When the heart is in it we want to succeed, and Steven definitely puts his heart into his endeavors.
